Virginia school divisions are at different points in implementing the Virginia Literacy Act. Some are building shared knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction. Others are introducing new materials and routines, working through uneven classroom implementation, or determining how to sustain and strengthen practices already underway.
Drawing on Catapult Learning’s professional learning partnerships with Henrico County Public Schools and other school divisions across the Commonwealth, this practical webinar will help literacy leaders identify where their schools are in the implementation journey and determine what may be needed next.
Participants will explore common challenges that emerge at each stage, including the implementation dip that often follows adoption. The session will examine how professional learning, job-embedded coaching, collaborative planning, classroom observation, and student data can help educators translate new knowledge and materials into consistent daily instruction.
Participants will leave with a clearer way to consider:
- Where literacy implementation is gaining traction or beginning to dip
- Whether educators need deeper knowledge, stronger instructional routines, or support applying existing learning
- How coaching should evolve as implementation progresses
- How to align professional learning, core instruction, and intervention
- What the next practical step should be for their schools or division
The goal is to help Virginia leaders understand where they are, recognize what educators need now, and make a thoughtful plan for what comes next.
