VASS-VASBO 2022 Winter Conference

The Pandemic has created a Tsunami of financial issues for school leaders to address since VASS and VASBO members last met in person in January, 2020. Our members have been scrambling to find answers to a deluge of questions that have been generated by the wave of federal and state regulations and policies about funding relief and other resources for public education. This year’s VASS-VASBO Annual Winter Conference aspires to help you with the answers by providing you with the latest information from those in the know, as well as opportunities to share what you are doing in your school divisions in order to learn from and assist your colleagues. Learning and working together, we can help each other to flourish in the Pandemic’s financial wake.
The conference will be held in person January 9-11, 2022 at the Hilton Richmond Downtown, with accommodations to ensure that participants remain healthy and safe. Since we have not met together in almost two years, we want it to be an enjoyable social and educational experience.
VASS-VASBO Annual Winter Conference meetings and events will follow the current VDOH guidelines for schools, which recommend at this time the wearing of masks and distancing three feet when indoors. Chairs in the ballroom will be set three feet apart and we will provide extra masks which are recommended for indoor attendance at sessions and social events. Participants will be notified in advance if there are any changes in the mitigation strategies that we will utilize on-site.
The VASS-VASBO Winter Conference traditionally focuses on federal and state legislation and policies with financial implications for school divisions, as well as best practices in local school finance. This year’s conference will feature over twenty speakers and panelists, with opportunities for discussions.
One of the highlights will include panels of superintendents and their school business officials discussing examples of how they are using their ESSER funds, addressing procurement issues, and finding innovative solutions to teacher and staff recruitment and retention.
In addition, we hope to have members of the General Assembly and the Governor-elect make presentations in person.

Conference Fee and Registration for Superintendents, School Business Officials, other School Division Leaders, and VASS and VASBO Retired Members
The 2022 VASS-VASBO Winter Conference registration fee for Superintendents, School Business Officials, other School Division Leaders, and VASS and VASBO retired members is $275 per person.
The registration deadline is Friday, December 24, 2021.
In the registration form (below), required fields are indicated with a red asterisk. Mistakes made in completing the form will be highlighted in red.
Once you have submitted the registration, the person or people whom you have designated to receive a confirmation email should see that email (with registration information included) within 24 hours.
You will be invoiced for the registration fee after the conference. You may submit payment by check, or you may pay by credit card or PayPal, using the link to the VASS online payment portal which you will receive along with the invoice.
The person on the registration form whom you have identified as the billing contact will receive the invoice by January 17. If a purchase order number is provided on the registration form, it will be referenced on the invoice.
Notice of cancellation must be sent by email to Liza Scallet, the VASS Administrative Assistant, by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 24 . . . or you will be billed in full.
Registration for VASS Partners, VASBO Partners, and Other VASS Business Members
VASS Business Partners (Levels 4-7) and VASBO Business Partners (Levels Platinum and Diamond) are invited to have two representatives participate in the Winter Conference at no charge.
VASS Partners and VASBO Partners who would like to attend the conference are asked to contact Liza Scallet, VASS Administrative Assistant, for registration information.
VASS Business Affiliate Members (Levels One-Three) and VASBO Silver and Gold Partners are eligible to register representatives to participate in the Winter Conference. VASS and VASBO have set aside rooms at the government rate for conference participants on January 9 and 10, at the Richmond Hilton Downtown.
The rate is $145 for a single OR for a double per night. Internet access is included in the rate. Paid parking is available in the parking garage across E. Broad St. and in the parking lot across N. 5th Street from the hotel.
The deadline to reserve a discounted room is December 19, 2021.
