Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Obligations: It’s More than Just Sports Equity, co-sponsored by VASS & VHSL
December 04, 2019
Most people hear “Title IX” and think “equal rights for girls in sports.” In fact, Title IX has much broader reach than sports equity, especially as it relates to sexual misconduct by students affecting the academic and other aspects of school life. Failure to understand and apply the federal regulations that apply to sexual misconduct situations can lead to costly lawsuits and can place federal funding in jeopardy.
Make sure your administrators know the answers to these questions:
- Why have sexual misconduct issues become more prevalent recently?
- What are the legal requirements for resolving sexual misconduct matters involving students or employees from the U.S. Department of Education?
- How do you properly investigate a sexual misconduct matter?
- How do you provide an effective due process hearing and appeal?
- What preventive strategies should you be taking?
- How do you make your coaches aware that comments and criticisms to players can backfire if they are perceived as sexist?
These topics and more will be covered in a fact-filled half-day (9 am – 1 pm) (lunch included) workshop.
The workshop runs from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
