Media Relations Workshop
for Superintendents and Staff Members
“What to Do When You’re the 6 o’clock News”
Barbara Hunter, VASS Communicators on Call Consultant
May 5, 2019
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Roanoke Ballroom F-G
In public schools, it's not if a crisis will occur, it's when. Are you ready to stand in front of the media and deliver the right message on behalf of your school division? Preparation is key for any interview, whether it is over the phone with one reporter or at a live news conference with many reporters. In this lively, interactive session, you’ll learn how to define your messages, bridge from the reporter's questions to your key points, and deliver those messages with confidence. You will also come to understand the news cycles of a crisis and practice interview techniques to hone your skills, so you will be fully prepared the next time a reporter calls.
